Ronald Mathis, Jr. died on Saturday, November 16, 2024 with family by his side at Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was 65 years old. Ron was born on May 2, 1959 in Bristol, PA. Ron spent his childhood in New Jersey, He lived with his grandparents for several years and spent a lot of time on his uncle's farm.
He attended Windsor Forest High School in Savannah, and Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. Early in his career Ron followed in his father's footsteps by working for F.W. Woolworth in Savannah, Garden City, and Charleston, S.C. He was known as "Dimestore Ron" by friends. He then combined his business knowledge with his love of cars and entered the automotive retail profession, working for Western Auto, Pep Boys and Advance. The last 20 years of his career were spent as Parts Manager for Mitsubishi and then Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM dealerships in Savannah.
Ron was known for his quick-witted humor, his automotive knowledge, and his love of music and sports. He enjoyed working in his shop, playing pool, telling stories, and tending his garden. Ron loved animals and had many pets over his lifetime, including dogs, fish, parrots and ducks.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda, two sons, Daniel (Dennette) and Kevin, and granddaughters, Diana and Natalie. Preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Mathis, Sr. and Shirley Mathis.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
