Ronald D. McDonald, age 78 of Granville, Ohio, formerly of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He was born September 12, 1946, in Versailles, Kentucky. Ron was a 1964 graduate of Frankfort High School, attended the University of Kentucky for one year and was a member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association.

Ron served his country as a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War. He began his career as an Insurance Agent with Mutual of New York. Ron then transitioned to District Sales Manager with Puritan Churchill Company that later became EcoLab, retiring from EcoLab after 35 years. He then returned to the Insurance Industry as an agent with Steve McDonald Insurance Agency LLC.

He loved golf, fishing, enjoyed working outdoors, and yard work. Ron was an avid collector. He was an officer in the Evergreen Hills Association serving multiple roles in the neighborhood. Ron was appointed a Kentucky Colonel, the highest honorary title awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, bestowed by the governor. It is a recognition of an individual's noteworthy accomplishments, contributions, and service to their community, state, and nation.

Ron is preceded in death by his father, Billy McDonald. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 ½ years, Dr. Donna J. (Bowling) McDonald; children, Stephen C. (Lisa M.) McDonald, Stephanie L. McDonald; grandchildren, Makenzie R. McDonald, Lukas A. McDonald, Riley M. Wolf; his mother, Betty (Barnes) Ely; sisters, Agnes Yvonne McDonald Feller, Lynn I. McDonald Hudgins; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11AM – 2PM Friday, May 2, 2025, at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St, Granville, Ohio 43023 where a funeral service will begin at 2PM Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
