Ronald Lloyd McGarraugh, also known as "Ron" or "Ronnie" to his family and friends, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, June 14, 2025 at 6:00 a.m.
Ron was born on March 3, 1942 in Perryton, Texas to Lloyd and Marie McGarraugh. He lived on the family farm outside Perryton, then the family moved to Dalhart Texas, and later on to Gruver, Texas. They returned to Perryton when he was 11 years of age. Dad has a younger brother, Duane and family of Perryton, Texas, and sister, Linda and family of Iowa Park, Texas.
Dad grew up working hard on the farm, and had a love for school and learning. Following graduation from Perryton High School, Ron went to college, beginning at Bethany Nazarene College, then finishing at Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Dad met the love of his life, Carolyn Lou Sherrill, while attending Bethany Nazarene College. They were married on June 3, 1962, and spent the next 63 years side by side.
Ron and Carolyn had three children, Steven, Sherry, and Susan, and now have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ron graduated college with a degree in Mathematics/Computer Science and a minor in German. He became a computer programmer at Tinker Air Force Base where he worked for 42 years.
In 2003, Mom and Dad moved from Bethany to 80 acres south of Stroud, Oklahoma. Ron spent his remaining years with Mom, family, and their animals - horses, donkeys, llamas, and chickens, along with dogs and cats.
Dad loved getting together with family, sharing meals, playing games and working puzzles together.
Dad's love for the Lord was sweet and gentle. He passed this love on to everyone who was close to him. Dad's love for our Mom, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of his family and friends flowed from his relationship with Jesus.
We are already missing Dad, but we are comforted knowing that he is with Jesus, and his family who have gone on before him, especially his daughter, Sherry. We know that we will see him again.
Viewing at Mercer-Adams is Thursday, 1pm-8pm and Friday, 8am-8pm with family present on Friday evening from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2:00 p.m. at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment to follow in Bethany Cemetery.
The service was livestreamed and may be viewed on this obituary page.
