Ronald Pannell, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted servant of the Lord, passed away on October 7, 2025, at NMMC-Tupelo, just a day after celebrating his 76th birthday. He was born on October 6, 1949, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Ronald Grover Pannell and Mary Evelyn Holcomb Pannell, who preceded him in death.
Ronald's journey began at Shannon High School, where he cultivated the strong work ethic that would define his life. He learned the art of tile masonry from his father and went on to establish a successful business, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship. He was especially proud to have passed down his skills and work ethic to his sons, Ronnie Pannell (Erica) of Plantersville and Jason Pannell (Amanda) of Nettleton, who continue in his cherished footsteps.
In 1969, Ronald was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served and bravely fought alongside his fellow soldiers during the Vietnam War. This experience shaped him into a man of resilience and gratitude for the freedoms enjoyed in life.
A dedicated and loving family man, Ronald was married to Brenda Pannell for 57 wonderful years. Together, they enjoyed life in Nettleton, nurturing their family and building lifelong memories. Ronald took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren: Garrett Westbrook (Kerri), Luke Pannell (Halee), Kalyn Pannell (Brock), Anna Claire Graham (Jay), Paxton Pannell, Ella Jane Pannell, Maddie Grace Peek (Jeffery), Marlie Hester (Brady), and Mason Pannell (Teryn). He also cherished his role as a great-grandfather to Preslee Pannell, Andee Kate Pannell, Maylee Pannell, Sunee Pannell, Neely Westbrook, and Bellami Cates. Ronald was known for his thoughtfulness, including writing a book for his grandchildren that shared everything he felt they should know.
Beyond his career and family, Ronald was a man of faith. For over 45 years, he tirelessly preached the gospel of Jesus Christ, including a remarkable 25 years as the proud pastor of Union Baptist Church. His unwavering dedication to his ministry left a profound impact on his congregation and community.
Ronald enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, finding peace in the outdoors while tending to his farm animals and fowl. He cherished hunting, fishing, and diving into books, driven by a deep desire to learn, particularly about history.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, alongside a close-knit family comprising his sons, brothers, and sisters: Gary Pannell (Sara) of Blue Springs; Jean Hendrix (Dan) of Baldwyn; Diane Curry (Jim) of Wheeler; Linda Kramer (Dennis) of Tupelo; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts. Ronald also leaves behind special friends, including Clyde Smithey, Herbert Langford, and Bro. Jackie Pate, who have shared in the joys of his journey.
Ronald Pannell, Sr. will be honored during a visitation on October 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service officiated by Bro. Jackie Pate at 4:00 PM, both held at Cleveland - Moffett Funeral Home in Amory, Mississippi. Burial will follow in the Pannell Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harvey Mallette, Garrett Westbrook, Luke Pannell, Paxton Pannell, Mason Pannell, Jay Graham, Brock Cates, Brady Hester and Jeffery Peek. Honorary pallbearer, Clyde Smithey.
His legacy of love, faith, and dedication will resonate through the lives he touched. Ronald will be profoundly missed, yet warmly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
