Ronald Shaffer Obituary
Born October 16, 1968 in Natrona Heights, he was a son of the late J. Howard Shaffer & Judith Rearick.
Ron was a 1986 graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School and proudly served our country with the United States Army for 8 years.
He worked as an EMT all over the Kiski Valley, employed by Murrysville Medic One since 2008. Ron was part of Murrysville's rehab, special operations, water rescue, dive team, where he was a Master Diver, and EMS strike teams. He also served as non-suppression/rescue instructor at the Community College of Allegheny County, Butler County Community College, and the PA State Fire Academy.
Ron was a member of Pleasant View Brethren Church, and the Vandergrift #1 VFD.
He enjoyed watching television, especially NCIS, Westerns, and his favorite show, M.A.S.H. Ron liked bingo, and playing scratch-off tickets. He most loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson Maverick.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Shaffer; and his twin-brother, Donald Shaffer.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 30 1/2 years Lynette A. (Hill) Shaffer; daughters, Sabrina (Michael) Lerch of Vandegrift, Meghan Fombutu of Wichita, KS; son, Daniel (Amanda Wolfe) Shaffer of Vandergrift; grandchildren, Maverick & Calvin; brothers, James Shaffer of Dayton, OH, Artie "Rob" Shellhammer of Latrobe; sister, Debi (Jim) Carnahan of Kiski Township; stepmother, Peggy Shaffer of Spring Church; and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. A fireman and EMS service will take place on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Additional viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Todd Ruggles officiating. Following the services, military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.

Knowing Ron for as many years as I have, has created a bundle of memories of good and bad moments. As a Murrysville Police Officer, Ron and I would meet many times on calls. It was comforting when would respond with Medic 1. Ron was an Emergency Services warrior and challenged himself to be good at what he did, get better at it until he was the best that he could be. We need you longer than we had you. We had you so you could teach others. And now we have to perform and work without you. Keep watching over us all and give us inspiration.
