Ronald Myron Shannon passed away at age 79 at UW Madison Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin on November 26, 2025 surrounded by his family. Ron was born in Reedsburg, WI on October 12, 1946, the second of three boys of Byron Shannon and Ileen Shannon. He graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1964. He spent one year in college at Sioux City, then attended Sauk County Teachers College in Reedsburg for the next two years. It was there that he met Priscilla Sue Smith, whom he would marry upon graduating from college. Ron and Sue were married July 15, 1967 in the Reedsburg United Methodist Church, by Rev, Virgil Holmes attended by Sue's sister, Polly, and Ron's older brother, Russell.
The newlyweds moved to Kenosha County and began teaching at Bristol Consolidated School. Their first son, Casey, was born in 1972 while the couple lived near Silver Lake, WI. They purchased their home in Wheatland Township shortly after their second son, Justin, was born in 1977. Ron taught 5th grade while at Bristol. He loved his job and he loved the students in his care. While at Bristol, Ron attended UW Parkside campus in Kenosha and received his BA from UWP. Ron and Sue enjoyed travelling each summer and managed to reach all but one of the lower 48 states, as well as spending the entire summer of 1984 in Alaska. After teaching 35 years, Ron and Sue retired from Bristol School in 2002. In the fall of 2009, they sold their home in Wisconsin and moved to Ridgway, CO. Ron enjoyed the outdoors, spending time Jeeping in the mountains, photographing landscapes and wildlife, fishing and hiking. He was also a player and collector of Native American flutes. Ron moved to Richland Center, WI in 2020, but spent the majority of time in his last years in Gunnison, Colorado with friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla Sue, and his parents Byron and Ileen Shannon. He is survived by son Casey and his wife Angela and their children, Elizabeth Linda Sue Shannon, Emma Suzanne Shannon, and Finn Killian Shannon, of Richland Center, WI and other grandchildren Scott and Samantha Stubley, and son, Justin of Richland Center, WI, brother Russell Shannon (Barbara) of Richland Center, WI, brother William Shannon (Joyce) of New Albany, IN, eleven nieces and nephews and twelve grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held in Richland Center, WI. The date will be announced in the future. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with thier arrangements.
