Ronald Shapella, 71, passed away on September 28, 2025. An advocate for thoughtful leadership and a man of quiet strength, Ron left a lasting impression on those who knew him through his kindness, intellect, and dedication to his community. Born on October 7, 1953, in Corning, New York, Ron was the son of Dena Shapella and the late Ronald Shapella Sr. He grew up with a deep appreciation for learning and expression. At Rowan University, he earned his bachelor's degree in journalism in 1978-a field that reflected his love for words and thoughtful communication. Ron began his career as a reporter for several newspapers including the Wilmington News Journal and the Trenton Times. He went on to work for several New Jersey agencies including the Board of Public Utilities, the Association of Environmental Authorities, and the Department of Environmental Protection. During his retirement, he often worked as a freelance writer covering a wide variety of subjects. Ron's commitment to public service included several years on the West Amwell Township Committee, where he served as Mayor in 2007. His tenure was marked by a genuine desire to serve the people of his township with integrity and compassion. Beyond his professional life, Ron found joy in music, playing the violin, poetry, and baseball-passions that brought him both solace and inspiration. He embraced the quiet beauty of life's simple pleasures. Baseball remained a lifelong interest that connected him to cherished memories. Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Shapella; his beloved mother, Dena Shapella; his sister, Valerie Shapella; and his brother, Daniel Shapella. He was predeceased by his father, Ronald Shapella Sr. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him as a gentle, thoughtful man who had a loving, kind, and quiet presence. A Service will be held 11 am on Monday, October 6, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Rd, Moorestown, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions maybe made to the Moorestown Community house, 16 E. Main St., Moorestown, NJ 08057 or an animal charity of donor's choice!
