Ronald Edward Melton, 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 with his family by his side. He was born on October 12, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Edward and Frances Melton.
Ron was a graduate of Valley High School class of 1958. After high school he attended Barber College. He worked at Powell's Barber shop with his Uncle Bobby. In 1961 he graduated from the Jefferson County Police Department Training School. He was drafted in 1962 and served three years in the Army. Ron rode motorcycles for the Jefferson County Police Department until he became a Detective for Auto Theft. He retired in 1988 with 27 years of service with the JCPD. After retirement from the police department, he worked for the Marshall Service.
Ron was a member of Kosair Shrine since 1971 where he enjoyed being a member of the Boat Club, SandBugs, Street Machines, Hillbillies and the Director's Staff. If you ever needed him on a Friday night, you could find him at the Shrine. He was a member of the Okolona Masonic Lodge and the River City FOP.
Ron enjoyed his boat, the "Linda-Ron", motorcycles, car races, his dune buggy and driving his dog Sakari around the neighborhood. "Pops", as his grandsons called him, was extremely proud of his three grandsons and supported them in all of their sports and activities. Whether it was football, lacrosse, diving, track & field, baseball, bowling, archery, boy scouts or autocross, he was always there supporting them. He would always have a smile on his face when he talked about them.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Frances Melton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Dodson Melton; his daughter Ronda Melton Hoehler (Kenny) and his three grandsons, Clayton (Trinity), Clint (Ally) and Cole Hoehler. He was looking forward to the birth of his two great grandsons; Oliver (April) and Caleb (July).
