FARMINGTON – Rosa Lee Matkin of Farmington entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Ashbrook Assisted Living at the age of 86. She was born in Caledonia, Missouri, on January 2, 1939, to the late Raymond Grindstaff and Glenda (Long) Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Matkin; her son, Donald Nielsen; a son-in-law, Bill Mund; and her brother-in-law, Marvin Chapman.
Rosa Lee was a graduate of Farmington High School, class of 1956. She worked as a nurse’s aide throughout her adult years at Farmington Community Hospital, Mineral Area Hospital, and various area nursing homes. She was a caring foster parent for 22 years. Rosa Lee enjoyed living on a farm where she always had several farm animals and flower gardens to tend.
Currently, she was a member of Sonrise Baptist Church in Bonne Terre.
Survivors include her sons, Greg (Gale) Nielsen, Randy (Dana) Nielsen, and Chuck (Amy) Klempert; her daughter, Tammy Mund; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Joan Chapman; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 25, 2025 beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. officiated by Rev. Roger Hogan. Interment will be held at Knob Lick Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorials, if desired, may be made in Rosa Lee’s name to the donor’s choice.
