Dr. Roscoe Longino Ivy, Jr., 78, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was born on September 23, 1944 in Lincoln County to the late Roscoe Longino Ivy, Sr. and Sally Carlisle Ivy. Roscoe was a graduate of Brookhaven High School. He went on to earn his bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. from Mississippi State University. He worked in agriculture research for his entire career, retiring from MAFES with over 30 years of service. After retirement, Roscoe worked as an agriculture consultant. He married the former Margaret Epting on June 8, 1969. Roscoe was a master gardener and enjoyed working his garden and feeding birds. He gave his life to Christ many years ago and was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church in Aberdeen. He found a love for traveling, and with a servant’s heart, traveled to many countries doing the Lord’s work. He also went on many mission trips state side as well. He also had a passion for the less fortunate, serving many years as a member of the Aberdeen Lions Club. Roscoe knew the power of God’s word and was a proud member of the Gideons International. Everyone knew Roscoe as a quiet man who enjoyed pulling up a seat, cup of coffee in hand and just listening to others talk.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Ivy of Calera, AL; daughter, Karen Moore (Brian) of Clinton, MS; grandchildren, Riley Moore and Logan Moore; special friend, Frances Grace of Lackey.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Margaret Ivy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. George Collins and Bro. Terry Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM on Monday, January 16, 2023 at the funeral home.
