Rose Marie "Dosie" Powierza, age 74, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at her residence. She was born on January 12, 1951 in Erie, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Concetta (Grignol) Eller.
Rose graduated from Strong Vincent High School with the Class of 1968. She went on to earn both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Elementary Education from Edinboro University. Following college, she began her teaching career at Blessed Sacrament and Holy Rosary Schools before joining the Erie School District, where she enjoyed a long and fulfilling career until her retirement from Glenwood Elementary School. After retiring, Rose attended Clown College and brought joy to many as "Paprika" the clown, delighting children with her warmth and playful spirit.
Rose enjoyed attending Silver Sneaker classes at the East Side YMCA and she was a life member of the Siebenbuerger Club. She loved playing cards and dice, and "rolling on her money" on New Year's Eve. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and hosting family gatherings during the holidays. Above all, spending time with her family-especially her grandchildren-brought her the greatest joy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Laura Powierza; her grandson, Ryan Joseph Powierza; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stanley and Virginia Powierza.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Richard Powierza; one daughter, Rebecca Powierza; two sons, Richard and Randy (Jennifer) Powierza; four grandchildren, Hannah, Jack, Connor, and John Powierza; and one brother, John (Elaine) Eller. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited to call at the John R. Orlando Funeral Home, 2122 Raspberry Street, on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and may attend a Funeral Service there on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Rose's family would like to thank the staff at Community Nursing Services of Northeast Hospice for their wonderful care.
