Roxanne Hamilton Obituary Roxanne Linnae Hamilton
Born Sept. 1, 1953, Died July 2, 2025
Roxanne was born to Austin and Ardys Boen in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in the town of Colton, where her father owned and operated the Colton Lumber Yard and her mother was a very busy homemaker to eight children. Roxie loved being a part of a large family, often talking about "supper time" with ten people around the table and sharing a room and clothes with her four sisters. Roxie attended the University of South Dakota, earning both an undergraduate and a masters degree in business administration. It was there that she met her husband, Stan. They married on January 1, 1977.
In 1978 Roxie and Stan moved to the Twin Cities. Roxie went to work for Northwestern National Bank, where she was on the team leading the effort to roll out a new-fangled thing called the Instant Cash Machine, or ATM. Convincing banks to introduce a "machine" to do a portion of the work done by a "human teller" was not an easy task. In 1982, Roxie became a mother to Kristen. She left the ranks of the "employed" and began a twenty-year career as a professional mother to Kristen and Mark (born in 1984), a church and school volunteer, and the CEO of the Hamilton household. Roxie cherished this time at home. She became a master cook and baker, with many of her favorites recipes preserved in her Hamilton Family Recipe book. In 2002, Roxie returned to the workforce, spending the next twenty years working as an accountant for the Christensen Group Insurance Agency, but never giving up her primary role of wife, mother, and grandmother.
Roxie was an inspiration to many. She battled many different cancers for 20+ years, never complaining and always remaining steadfast in her faith. The Hamilton Family is grateful to the hundreds of friends and to her family who offered prayers for Roxie and to the doctors who continually found ways to help her beat this disease.
Roxie is survived by her husband Stan, daughter Kristen (Dan), son Mark (Alicia), grandchildren Charlie (10), Grace (8), Maura (6) and Vale (4), mother Ardys Boen, siblings Virginia (Jim), Andrea (Mike), Janice (Dennis), Renee, Scott (Lisa), Kent (Sonja), Mike and many nieces and nephews. Roxie was preceded in death by her father, Austin Boen.
