Roxie Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Salisbury on Mar. 6, 2026.
It is with great sadness, of the passing of our Matriarch, Roxie Mae Evans, 90, of Salisbury, formerly of Newcastle, Delaware. Born on November 7, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James Stanley and Roxie Anna Pinkett of Salisbury.

Roxie was a graduate of the Salisbury High School Class of 1952. She was an avid basketball player during her school years. The love she had for children led her to work at the Community Presbyterian Daycare.

Roxie loved her family. She loved to cook. When you came to visit, you never left hungry. If you wanted to have a good time, call Roxie because she loved to dance, sing and make people laugh. When she resided in the nursing home she was called Foxxy Roxie, because she still love to sing and dance.

Roxie is survived by her son Wallace Evans (Anita) of Seattle, WA and her daughter, Katina Williams (Mervin) of Dover, DE; grandchildren, Maurice Evans, Percy Ponder Jr., Angelo Wright, Khadaphi Handy, Imani Evans, Dontae Hawks, Dinnici Evans and Dontae Evans; and a host of great grand children; a sister, Monterey Raynor, of Salisbury, a niece, Eugenie Shields, her caregiver; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Roxie was predeceased by her daughter, Lavern Ponder, her son Raliegh Evans; and grandchildren, Jonathan Grimes, Martina Handy and SaMeir Handy; sisters, Mamie Williams, Jean Birckhead, Valerie Lightfoot; and brother, James Pinkett.

Psalm 121

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
