Roy Allen Smith was born on October 9, 1956, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to Ben Smith and Geneva (Vaughn) Smith. Roy passed from this life on June 28, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. From a young age, Roy was full of energy and passion, spending his childhood playing football, basketball, boxing, and enjoying his favorite pastime-fishing.
He graduated from Wynnewood High School and went on to attend Arkansas University, where he proudly played football. After college, Roy pursued a career in welding with Halliburton and later found his calling in caregiving, working at the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. His work there reflected his generous heart and his commitment to helping others live independently and with dignity.
Roy was a lifelong member of Mt. Olivet Church in Wynnewood, where his strong faith was evident in both word and deed.
Roy was married to Carolyn Ervin until her passing in 2012. Through their union, he lovingly helped raise her two children, LaKeisha Ervin and Stanley Ross, whom he cared for as his own. In later years, Roy met his special friend Tiffany Peters, with whom he shared his joy.
Roy continued to enjoy life to the fullest. Known affectionately by many as "Bones," he loved singing, grilling, playing dominoes, fishing, traveling, and visiting friends and family, especially at large family reunions. A true grill master and entertainer, he was always the life of the party.
With a booming laugh and a heart to match, Roy was a showman-funny, outgoing, and loved by everyone who knew him. His passion for people and his love of children made him unforgettable. He was a devoted R&B fan, loving all artists including, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Keith Sweat, Prince, and Bruno Mars. Roy taught those around him the value of hard work, independence, and staying committed no matter the challenge.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, magnetic personality, and the way he made every person feel seen, heard, and loved.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Geneva (Vaughn) Smith; wife, Carolyn Ervin; Brothers, Leonard Lee Smith, Benny Lee Smith; Sisters, Nevada Mae Smith, Clydine Smith, and Lorena Smith.
Roy is survived by his Son, Stanley Ross; Daughter, LaKeisha Ervin; Grandchildren, Micah Ervin and Lauren Ervin; Friend, Tiffany Peters; Brother, Sylvester Smith and wife Melodye; Sisters, Curina Smith, Nancy Talton and husband Joe; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and other family.
Public Visitation with family will be on Wednesday, June 2, 2025 at Wooster Funeral Home Chapel in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
