Ruben was born September 14, 1930 in Many, Louisiana, the son of the late Herman Batson and Lois Wood both of Many, Louisiana. He obtained his GED in the military. He worked full time while attending a community college in Thorton and Westminster, Colorado pursuing certifications in welding, machinist and hydraulics. While continuing to work his full-time job, he started his own wrought iron business and continued this business upon moving to Mason, Tennessee.
He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte of 66 years, four children: William Batson of Millington, TN, Ruth McClain (Lowell) of Leander, TX; Judith Hampton (Earl) of Paintsville, KY and Mark (Pam) of Henning, TN, his cousin, Vickie (Donnie) Wyatt of Branson, MO. Six grandchildren, Ashlie McClain of Leander, TX; Aaron McClain (deceased), Christopher Batson (Haleigh) of Halls, TN; Jennifer Hampton of Paintsville, KY; Gracie Batson of Ripley, TN and Zackary Batson of Henning, TN. Nine great grandchildren: Caden and Delanie Conklin of Leander, TX; Gavin and Ethan McClain of Leander, TX; Aubrey Hampton of Paintsville, KY; Blakely Cox of Ripley, TN; and Atlas McClain of Leander, TX; Paislynn Batson of Halls, TN and one on the way, Kaisen Batson of Halls, TN.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents and both maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as his grandson Aaron McClain.
Ruben Batson served 21 years in the United States Air Force. He served as lay pastor in both the Covington and Dyersburg Seventh Day Adventist Churches. He was the Head Elder in the Dyersburg Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was loved by family and friends in his journey through life. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him here at home and abroad. His favorite greeting to everyone he met was "GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I".
Visitation will be from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home in Covington, TN. Funeral will be at 9:00 am with the committal at 11:00 in the West Tennessee Veteran Cemetery, Memphis, TN.
