Ruby Laverne (Wright) Wooten, 99, former resident of Excello, MO, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Clarence Care Center in Clarence, MO, where she had been a patient for ten days. She had resided at her daughter Karen's house for the last seven years in Clarence, MO.
Ruby was born December 1, 1925, the daughter of Alexander and Birdie Wright. She married Bascom "Leon" Wooten on September 6, 1945 in Muncie, KS. Ruby enjoyed quilting, gardening, and spending time with family. She was a wonderful cook. The family spent almost every Sunday together gathered around her home cooking. They especially loved her fried chicken, noodles, and homemade rolls. She worked as a nurse's aide at Still-Hildreth Osteopathic Sanatorium in Macon, MO for several years and Toastmasters in Macon, MO for many years. Ruby raised her six children and was married to Leon for 72 years.
Ruby is survived by her five children; Robert (Millie) Wooten of Excello, MO, Carol (John) Dennis of Atlanta, MO, Karen (Larry) Maupin of Clarence, MO, Donna (Rick) Maupin of Clarence, MO, Randy (Hertha) Wooten of Excello, MO; one daughter-in-law, Susan Wooten of Excello, MO; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren, sixteen great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Wooten; her parents; one son, Larry Wooten; four brothers; five sisters; two granddaughters; Monica Wooten and Vicky Wooten; one son-in-law, John Baker; one daughter-in-law, Tami Wooten; and one grandson-in-law, Stanley Kendrick.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 am, until the time of the service, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Woodville Cemetery in Woodville, MO. The family suggests memorials to the Woodville Cemetery or the Woodville Church.
