Rufus Thames Whitfield, 95, of Jay, Florida, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Jay Hospital. He was a retired electronics technician at NAS Pensacola. He was a member of Pace Assembly of God Church where he served as an usher and was very active in the work of the church. He was a graduate of Jay High School and entered the United States Air Force in 1948 until 1952. He served during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Japan. He was later stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he married his wife of seventy-four years, Nellie Vee Simmons Whitfield, whom he met at the Jay Movie Theater. Miss Nellie Vee traveled the entire way to New Mexico alone to be married to Rufus. They both enjoyed working in their yard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lonie Whitfield; three brothers, Martin, Maurie, and Gerald Whitfield.
He is survived by his wife; Nellie Vee Whitfield; one daughter, Tina Gail Johnson (Phil), one son; Stanley Whitfield (Ivy); Three grandchildren, Adam Whitfield, Jennifer Johnson, and Michelle Johnson; one great grandson, Kyle Young.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 19th, 2025 at 11:00AM in Whitfield Pentecostal Fellowship Church with Pastor Joe Gillman officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time.
The United States Air Force Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors in the church at the conclusion of the service.
Burial will follow at Whitfield Cemetery.

Rufus was a good electrician in the standards lab. After he became supervisor he very politely told me one day to not play on the instruments anymore. He was always polite.
