Mr. Russell Wayne Cobb, known affectionately as Russell by his loved ones, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Mansfield. Born on October 11, 1942, in the tranquil town of Woodstock, Russell embarked on an enriching journey of life that spanned over eight decades.
Russell, a beloved figure in his community, was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Sandra C. Cobb, his sister, Mary Ruth Rutledge, his brothers, Bobby and James Cobb, his adored grandchild, Brooke Ann Johnson, and his parents, Ira C. and Ollie Bell Cobb. He is survived by his brother, Joe Cobb, and leaves a legacy of love and guidance through his children, David Cobb, Renee Sorrells, Niki Barber (Robert), and Becky Moore (Dennis "Scoot"). His influence and memory will live on through his treasured grandchildren Cayla Sorrells, David "D.K." Sorrells, Rory Barber (Mari), Tyler Moss, Noah Faubli, Ireland Moore, Luke Faubli, and his great-grandchildren Mason Finch, Shelby Sorrells, Auri Sorrells, and Caroline Barber. Russell will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and close friends who were a testament to his warm and expansive heart.
Russell lived a full life marked by the accomplishments of a man devoted to hard work and family values. A proud alumnus of West Gwinnett High School, he retired from General Motors where he was respected in his role as an inspector. Beyond his career, Russell was a man of many interests; he was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, or tending to his garden. His devotion was evident as an active member of New Rocky Creek Baptist Church, and his passion for sports was unmatched when cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Falcons or the Atlanta Braves.
Those who knew Russell will remember a man who was the embodiment of loving, generous, and thoughtfulness. His kindness touched the lives of many, and his legacy of love will continue to thrive in the community that was his home. Russell's life was a tapestry of cherished memories and enduring bonds, a life well-lived and well-loved. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding light for his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services for Mr. Cobb will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at New Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Reese and Pastor Charles Roper officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. J.C. Harwell & Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
