Russell Lee Green was born on the 18th of November 1941 in Sweetwater, Texas to his parents, Norris J. Green and Fairy Faye (Freeman) Green.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Mae (Green) James; brothers, Ronald Ray, Darrell Wayne and Kenneth Presley Green. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Denis (Allen) Green, and brother, Royce Weldon Green, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Russell spent most of his professional life working for Texas Instruments, Government Products Division. His career concluded in management positions with a couple of other electronic manufacturing companies in Dallas County.
Russell was a lifelong member of the Church. He has served his Lord as a lay preacher and led many Bible studies. An earlier bout with throat cancer hindered his speaking in later years, but he always enjoyed studying his Bible.
After graduating from Newman High School in Sweetwater, Texas, Russell did not know what he wanted to do with his life, but as with many young people he knew, he wanted off the dry land cotton farm. The U.S. Navy provided the stepping stone for the balance of his life. The Navy sent him to radar school and started him on his career in the electronic industry. After serving with the Navy he enrolled at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. While working at TI, Russell and his wife saved money trying to get back to the farm life he had left earlier. The purchased acreage outside of Ector, built a house and raised Honey Bees and Limousin cattle.
Russell was a Master Gardner. His garden grew every year with his wife building him a greenhouse so he could start his own seedlings, he eventually used about 2 acres to produce vegetables and fruit for his own table and freezer. He loved to give away his produce to his family, his Church family, friends and in some cases anyone Denise could find to take it.
Russell met his wife through family friends. After quizzing Denise on her "religious and political affiliations" he determined "I can work with that". They married after finishing their freshman year at NTSU in 1966. They worked together in conservative politics, raising honeybees, camping, fishing, travelling and most importantly they served their Lord with their Church Family at the Church of Christ in Savoy.
Russell enjoyed fishing through out his life. It was his choice that his ashes be scattered on his favorite fishing pond.
Memorial Services will be held 2pm Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Church of Christ in Savoy.

Russell asked me if I had a metal detector, I said yes but don´t know how to use it very well. He told me he was digging potatoes in the garden and lost his wedding ring. He said he had not had it off his finger since they married. I told him I would come look but couldn´t make any promises. We went out in the garden and every time the detector would go off, Russell would dig alittle and come up with a potato he had missed. This went one for several times and Russell said that´s the best potato detector I´ve ever seen. I adjusted the detector some and we walked alittle ways down the row search and the detector light up nd went crazy! I said let´s try here. Yeppers, Russell dug a little and came up with his wedding ring. He jumped up and took off running to the house to show Denise he had found it. He was so happy that day and I really had my doubts we would find it but wanted to give it a try to help Russell out. He came back out of the house with a bag of potatoes as a tank you gift. I´m going to miss visiting with Russell. We always laughed about that day.

I too was a fellow TIer

Sometimes I would look out my kitchen window and see Russell´s car in the driveway. He had come to fish the pond. He like fishing there, cause Darrell kept it mowed and he could see a snake! He usually left with an enough fish for dinner . He will truly be missed .

Uncle Russell is my husband's uncle. We Love Uncle Russell. He always had stories to tell about growing up on the farm. Everyone loved Uncle Russell & Aunt Denise. We have family reunions and a mini-reunion with the Green's distant cousins. Our family reunions are pretty big most of the time with somewhere around 30-40 people and more. The one thing that I had to make for all gatherings was my homemade Coconut Pies. I had to make two because between Uncle Royce and Uncle Russell there was always going to be a fuss over who got the first piece and whatever was left over. Even after his throat surgery he couldn't eat the coconut but he sure could eat the pie without the meringue on top. They always made time to come to the holidays we have. Didn't really miss to many gatherings.

My girls love him a lot and my grandkids love Uncle Russell.

We love both of them Russell & Denise.
Love
Gary & Karen James
