Russell Novak Sr. (Russ), age 73, born in Pender, Nebraska, passed away on October 2nd, 2024, after fighting stage 4 lung cancer since 2021.
Russell is survived by his mother: Norma Novak; brother: Clifford Novak; and sister: Catherine Haigh; daughter: Frieda Banks and her boyfriend: Jason; son: Russ Novak II and daughter-in-law: Lisa Novak. He is a Papa of 7 grandchildren: Chelsea (Sunshine), Jacob (Bub) & his wife: Marissa (Lil-Mama), Blake (Hot Rod), Jarrett (Rowdy), Steven (Squirt), Taylor (Tater) and Jayson (Goobie/Bisquit). He was also a great-grandpa to: Hudson (Lil Bub), Micah (Jellybean) and soon to be Kenneth. He had many others he considered his children: Janice, Stevie, David, Matt, Susie and Shannon.
Russ went through different careers as a mechanic, Matco tool salesman and an independent paintless dent repair business owner.
Hobbies included flying in smaller planes, airshow, drag races, spending time at the river, riding his golf cart, watching western movies and harassing his loved ones.
Russ was a selfless person caring about others above himself. He was a friend to everyone he met and was well respected by everyone. He considered everyone family unless proven otherwise. He brought laughter to every conversation and made any bad day a good day. He will be missed by all that he has met.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life gathering on Friday, October 11th at Roeder Mortuary in Gretna, NE – 11710 Standing Stone Dr. Gretna, NE - anytime from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM with a prayer service starting at 6:30 PM. We will place Russ to rest on October 12th at Tabor Cemetery in Tabor, IA at 10:00 AM. There will be a reception immediately after at the Library Hall in Tabor, NE.
