Russell Peffers, 93 of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025 at Country Court Nursing Home.
He was born on November 15, 1931 in Newark Ohio to Fred and Mary Peffers.
Russell graduated from Newark High School and moved into the manufacturing environment working as a mechanical engineer at Cooper-Bessemer, Marion Power Shovel (working on the Big Muskie project), Ohio Brass, HPM and Peabody. He finished his working career with a few years as a Pepperidge Farm distributor retiring from the workforce in 1991.
Russell spent his free time in retirement heavily involved in the Knox County Genealogical Society and researching his family tree. He was also very active in multiple bridge leagues in Mount Vernon and Westerville.
Beyond his passion for genealogy and bridge, he also went camping and fishing as often as he could. He loved spending time walking his dogs and taking care of the stray cats in the neighborhood as well as dabbling in gardening. In his younger years he enjoyed dancing and spent many years square dancing at Morgan Grange.
Russell was a beloved father and is survived by his daughters Karen (Randy) Marvin of Fredericktown, Pam (Mike Beeman) Sapp of Gambier, and Sharon Kromer of Perrysville. He is also survived by his nephew Chris (Lori) Peffers of Newark.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Eletha Jane Peffers; his daughter, Connie Peffers; his sister, Mary Fleming; his brother, Gerald Peffers; and his son-in-law, John David Kromer Jr.
No funeral services will be held.
