Ruth Getty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
Ruth Elizabeth Getty, 100, of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Mary's Home in West Hartford with her granddaughter, Megan, by her side. Born in Hartford on December 12, 1925, daughter of the late Thomas James and Bernice Eleanor (Etherington) McVey, she was raised in West Hartford and was a graduate of William H. Hall High School, Class of 1944.

After graduating from high school, Ruth lived in Seattle, WA and after her daughter was born, she returned to Connecticut where she raised her two children.

For most of her career, Ruth worked as the executive assistant to Bishop Raul Gonzalez at Youth Challenge in Hartford. Ruth loved ministering to the people who were involved in Youth Challenge's recovery programs and working with all of the staff. She lived her faith every day, visiting people who were incarcerated through her involvement with a prison ministry, and even taking people into her home who didn't have a place to stay. Throughout her life, Ruth loved music and participated in several church choirs and often would listen to Christian music and quietly sing hymns while at work or spending time at home.

After giving her life to Christ, Ruth worshiped for many years at the Church of the Living God in Avon and later at their church in Farmington. More recently, she was an active member of International Gospel Fellowship in Windsor where she enjoyed participating in many of the groups and ministries within the life of the church.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening around her home, taking photos to capture memories of family and church events, and keeping in touch with her family and friends. Ruth had a phenomenal memory and never forgot anyone's birthday, anniversary or other important day. She made phone calls and sent out cards to let others know she was thinking of them and praying for them. Her recollection of events even into her 90's led her to be a great storyteller recounting events from throughout her life with explicit details that painted a perfect picture for everyone who was listening.

She leaves two children, Charlene Brooks and her husband Jeffrey of Palm Bay, FL, and Timothy Moran and his wife Gail of Ashford; seven grandchildren, Stephen J. Brooks and his wife Tina of Port St. Lucie, FL, Christopher D. Brooks and his fiancé Gabby Bonthron of Stuart, FL, Matthew R. Brooks and his wife Amber of Palm Bay, FL, Peter M. Brooks and his wife Carlin of Palm Bay, FL, Anthony Romans and his wife Miranda of Rincon, GA, Thomas Moran of Las Vegas, NV, and Megan Moran and her fiancé Alex Mader of Ludlow, MA; seven great-grandchildren, Brantley Romans, Ciara Brooks, Cody Wilson, Andrew Brooks, Nash Brooks, Noah Brooks, and Graham Brooks; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three siblings, Thomas McVey, Jr., Eleanor Jones, and George McVey.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, February 6, 11 a.m.-12 Noon, followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at St. Mary's Home in West Hartford, especially to LTC-2E, for their outstanding and compassionate care of Ruth and the family. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary's Home, 2021 Albany Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117.

Ruth's life was a testament to her dedication to her faith and her family. She faced her own mortality unafraid looking forward to meeting her savior face to face. "Well done thou good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Lord."
