Ruth Maryde Fahey King of Schenectady, NY, passed away on October 27, 2025 at the age of 100.
The daughter of Reginald Michael Fahey and Mary Alice Duncan Fahey, she was born January 30, 1925, in Walla Walla, WA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence H King, son John Michael Orr, and brother Michael Fahey. She is survived by one brother, Dennis M. Fahey (Jean) of San Leandro, CA, daughter in law Linda Orr of Lexington, KY, granddaughter Amy Orr (Jason Wilkie) of Albany, NY, and great granddaughter Miranda Wilkie–Orr, also of Albany.
Maryde led a full and interesting life. A graduate of Whitman college with a BS in chemistry and of the University of Washington with a MSLS (library science), she spent most of her working life with General Electric as manager of the Whitney Library at the company's research facility. She extended her love of library service well beyond retirement years, volunteering as a provider of reading material for inmates in the Schenectady county jail. She and
Larry also spent untold hours volunteering with The Bridge, an in-patient drug and alcohol rehab center. A member of the Adirondack Society, she gave service as secretary to the local chapter. Other interests included bicycling, bird watching, opera, and folk dancing, especially Dutch folk dances. Into her early 90s she was visiting nursing homes teaching modified folk dances to "the old folks." In addition she was an accomplished wildflower photographer. Above all, she was a kind, generous and loving person who did all she could to make the world a better place.
There will be a celebration of life for Maryde on Thursday, November 20 at the First Presbyterian Church in Johnstown at 2:00 PM.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown.
