Orlie Ruth Bird Pearce, 91, passed away on December 30, 2024, in Midlothian, Texas.
Service: Tuesday, January 7 at 10:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church Midlothian, 800 S. 9th Street, Midlothian, Texas 76065
Ruth was born on November 30, 1933, in Quinlan, Texas, to Orlie and Lola Bird.
She grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she graduated from Sunset High School in 1950. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Melvin Pearce.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Throughout her life she held several jobs, including secretary at Wills Point High School and Greenville Intermediate School, as well as administrative assistant at the Greenville ISD Administration Office. She played the piano and frequently accompanied her husband Melvin's quartet.
Ruth had a strong Christian faith, loving both Jesus and others with her whole heart. She lived in Greenville, Texas for more than thirty years, where she was a member of Park Street Baptist Church. As an active church volunteer, Ruth helped in the office and the nursery. Ruth created beautiful crochet designs, and many friends and families throughout Texas are blessed with her works that display their last names.
As a proud grandmother, Ruth was very active in her grandchildren's lives. She enjoyed joining her great grandchildren at school for lunch or pulling them around the block in a wagon. Her grandchildren loved Granny's banana pudding.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Orlie M. Bird and Lola H. Bird, husband Melvin Pearce, sisters Anna B. Whitfield and Era Jo Graves Roper, and son-in-law Douglas Hobbs.
She is survived by her children Peggy Hobbs and Bill Pearce and his wife Judy Pearce; her grandchildren Jamye Pearce Drovdahl and her husband Chris Drovdahl, Zachary Hobbs and his wife Susan Hobbs, Holly Henderson and her husband Adam Henderson, and Whitney Flaherty and her husband Brandon Flaherty; and her great-grandchildren Andrew Hobbs, Katherine Hobbs, Tyler Henderson, Emily Henderson, and Sami Perez.

I loved Aunt Ruth my entire life. She was so kind, talented and fun to be with. Our crocheted last name is proudly hanging at home. I have fond memories of her playing the piano while my mom and Uncle Melvin sang. Saturday nights were fun growing up when our parents played dominoes. Now they are all together again, laughing and singing with the angels. Sending love to you all, Donny and Judy
