Ruth Nan Poor

Ruth Nan Poor, beloved Mother and Nanny, left this Earth for her heavenly home on January 1, 2023.
Ruth was born April 5, 1939 to William (Bill) and Myrtle (Basford) Parker in Vienna, Missouri where she was raised alongside her six siblings. She attended Vienna High School graduating in 1957. Ruth was married to her love, Sonny Poor, from June 29, 1957, until his passing on January 1, 2021. Ruth was also a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Lawson, Missouri.
Throughout her life, Ruth held jobs at Gilmore and driving a bus for the Lawson School District but her most cherished work was being Mom to her three children and Nanny to her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She clothed them in handmade Halloween costumes, prom dresses, wedding dresses and everything in between and made sure everyone had a quilt she had made with love. She also made sure her family was the most well-fed family in the county with weekend dinners at her home being the highlight of the week featuring her signature extra sweet tea. There was absolutely nothing Ruth wouldn't have done for her family and she spent her life supporting every endeavor and decision they ever made. She was a happy, jovial woman who loved to tell stories and laugh with those she loved. Ruth was a force to be reckoned with but for all the grit she had, she had just as much grace.
Ruth leaves behind a lasting legacy in her children Mitch (Susan) Poor, Julie (Shawn) Lunceford, and Marla (Terry) Sears, her grandchildren Mindy (Joel) Rich, Dalton (Amy) Petty, Dylan Poor, Brayden Byrd, Makenna Petty, Karsten Byrd, Zaylee Poor, Matt Lunceford and Zach (Brittany) Sears, and her great-grandchildren Sloane Black, Eddie Rich, Easton Sears, Duke Rich, Drake Sears, Sophia Sears, and Pike Petty. She is also survived by her sisters Joy Chambers and Nellie Sandbothe, and brother Jim Parker as well as several nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny Poor, parents Bill and Myrtle Parker, sisters Billie Havens and Louise Roberson, brother Terry Parker, and grandson Gunner Petty.
Visitation for Ruth will be 1-2:30 PM Friday, January 6, 2023 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs 5951 MO 10 Hwy, Excelsior Springs, Missouri with services to immediately follow.
