Ruth Marie Prigge went home to be with Jesus on the morning of July 16, 2025 at age 85. She was born to Henry and Martha Ohs on September 3, 1939 in Chicago, IL.
She placed her faith in Christ as Lord and Savior as a young girl and lived her life pointing people to Jesus.
Ruth met and married Edward Prigge in March of 1965 celebrating 57 years together before his death in 2022.
After graduating from Austin High School in the Chicago, IL suburb of Oak Park, she studied nursing at West Suburban Hospital through Wheaton College. After a year living and working in Philadelphia, PA, she returned to Chicago and met Ed at Church. Ed and Ruth married and moved their young family to Versailles, KY in 1968 when Ed was transferred to KY by the Rand McNally Company. In Versailles, the Lord led them to put down roots, eventually bringing Ruth's mother, Martha, to KY. Ruth worked several years as a nurse but spent the majority of her life making a home filled with love for the Lord and for her family.
Ruth and Ed were always active members at the churches God led them to join, serving in music/choir ministry, Sunday School, Bible study classes, children's ministries, and VBS. Ruth was active in Bible studies in Central Ky including BSF in Lexington.
Ruth learned to play the piano and especially enjoyed playing "by ear" when someone called out a favorite hymn. She and Ed enjoyed listening to various music from tapes and vinyl records they had acquired or had checked out from the library. Ruth and Ed stayed active together and loved spending time with church friends at supper club gatherings and adventures. She relished playing a good board game or group game with friends. Ruth never turned down an offer for playing tennis with anyone who would hit the ball with her. She and Ed always enjoyed hitting the road for a day trip to just about anywhere a tank of gas would take them. Together, they seemed to prefer being "on the go" somewhere.
She loved spending time with her family and especially her seven grandchildren. She remained close with many of her school and nursing classmates from Chicago through reunions and correspondence.
Ruth is survived by her brother, William Ohs of Denver, CO; two sisters-in-law from Illinois: Joyce Smith and Linda Childs; four children: Allen (Joan), David (Teri), Eva (Jamison Smith), and Mark (Regina). She is also survived by 7 grandchildren – Emma Prigge, Drew Robinson, Chandler Prigge, Layne Robinson, Ashley Prigge, Carsyn Prigge, and Caden Prigge.
Ruth's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers of Pathways at Daisy Hill for their incredible loving care over the past three years.
Visitation will be held from 9:30AM to 10:30AM followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the Wesley Covenant Fellowship church at 134 Court St in Versailles, KY. A fellowship will also follow the service from 11:15am to 12:30pm. (Parking for the church can be accessed from Big Spring Park Road.)
