Ruth Rugg

Ruth Rugg (Finch), 78, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025 at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born on May 10, 1947, the daughter of Warren Swanson and Florence (Kops) Swanson.
Ruth was born in Muskegon, Michigan. She graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1965. She worked to provide for her family while she attended classes at KCC and Spring Arbor to obtain her Bachelors Degree. Ruth married George Finch, who passed in 1993. She was known as Ruth Finch for a long time. After many years had passed, Ruth met Tom Rugg, who was Ruth's neighbor. They met and eventually started dating. Ruth married Tom in 2008, and they have been together ever since. Both families came together, to make one, large family. Ruth worked for the city of Battle Creek for a long time. She worked her way up to the position of General Foreman of the Battle Creek Water utilities department.
Ruth was also known as Huggles The Clown, spent many years volunteering as a Red Cross Clown. She loved to bring smiles and laughter to those that needed it the most. She was the only Red Cross Clown that was ASL Sign Language certified, so she could entertain people that would not be able to hear. Huggles the Clown spent a lot of time at the women's shelter entertaining the children that were staying there with their mothers. She used her talents to bring joy and laughter to people in all settings. Ruth also worked at the Battle Creek Balloon Festival for many years. Ruth was also an active member at Baseline Church.
Ruth is survived by her Husband, Tom Rugg of Battle Creek, MI; daughter, Angelique (Mike) Muto, of Redford, MI ; sons, Scott (Yutemia) Finch of Missouri; step-daughter, Kimberly Case of Battle Creek, MI; Two Step-Sons, Greg Danziger, Timothy M. Finch; her sister Carolyn Ammon, brothers Dale and Conrad Swanson. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Florence Swanson, Father, Warren Swanson, and her brothers; Carl Swanson, and Merle Swanson.
