St. George, Utah - Ruth Schafer Sarrica, 82, passed away on September 18, 2024. She was born November 11, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois and was preceded in death by her parents, MacHenry G. Schafer and Gertrude Herrick Schafer, and her brother Carl Schafer.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Anthony Sarrica, whom she married on June 13, 1964; sister, Margaret V. Schafer Simone of Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Stephen (Kristina) Sarrica of Dexter, Michigan; daughter, Karen (Adam) Sarrica Burdette of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and two grandsons. Ruth was a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
Ruth's first job as a teen was writing names on Easter eggs at Gifford's ice cream parlor, due to her impressively small and precise handwriting. Ruth also worked for Gold Circle Stores and for insurance companies in Ohio, New York, and Texas. She retired from the Ohio School Boards Association in 1995 after serving as controller.
Ruth enjoyed her family, her cats, reading, knitting, needlepoint, and football - especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ruth and Tony met at college in Maine while playing bridge, a pastime they enjoyed throughout their 60 years of marriage.
