Ryan Christopher Salmon, 43, of Millbury, passed away suddenly due to heart issues, Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Born in Worcester on January 28, 1981, to Thomas J. and Maureen (Horgan) Salmon. Raised in Worcester, Ryan attended Holy Name High School and was a graduate of the class of 1999. After graduating high school Ryan went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in political science from Northeastern University.

Ryan started his career with Customs and Border Protection on June 30, 2008, at Boston Logan International Airport. In May of 2014 Ryan was detailed to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) assigned to the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). While at OCDEFT, Ryan worked on numerous multinational and national security cases which resulted in numerous arrests, currency seizures and narcotics seizures. In June 2018 Ryan took a promotion to Supervisory Customs and Border Protection officer and returned to Boston Logan International Airport before he transferred to Hartford to work in the same capacity. While at Hartford, Ryan was ultimately promoted to Port Director in August 2021, where he was responsible for the Ports of Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, and Waterbury- Oxford Airport and had direct oversight of over 25 employees and all CBP activities and all CBP’s missions in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Ryan was an exceptional leader that cared about his team as much as completing the mission.  He was always willing to help and assist and would stay long after his shift to make sure everyone had the tools, knowledge and support they needed.

As an avid football fan, Ryan loved the New England Patriots, but he also liked the Dallas Cowboys. He was the only Michigan fan in a family full of Notre Dame fans.

Renowned for his kind heart and generosity, Ryan cherished nothing in life more than his girls. He would spend his free time helping coach his daughters in soccer or baseball and he didn’t miss a dance competition.

Ryan found joy in taking family trips, particularly the annual trips to Cape Cod and Santa’s Village. If Ryan wasn’t enjoying fishing with his daughters, you could find them at the beach. He loved to take them to Hampton for some fried dough and to play the arcade games.

In addition to his parents, Ryan is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Linda (Ruggieri) Salmon of Millbury. He was an extremely proud and loving father to Meaghan M. and Kathryn “Kate” A.  Salmon of Millbury. He is also survived by his cherished siblings, Thomas Salmon and his wife Mallory of Sutton and Patrick Salmon of Worcester; his adored in- laws, Michael and Janice Ruggieri of Worcester; his dear sister and brother- in- law, Mary Ruggieri and David Ruggieri of Worcester; his irreplaceable childhood friends, Bobby Molinari of Auburn, AJ Iaconi of Worcester, John Wallace of Milford , and Ross Abdelnour of Worcester; his caring nieces and nephews, Eva Salmon, Raegan Salmon, Ella Ruggieri, Thomas Salmon, and James Ruggieri; his loving godson, Matthew Molinari; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A period of Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 11:00am at St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester, interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
