Sally Lou (Young) Fackler, 95, slipped peacefully into the arms of her precious Savior on February 15, 2025 at 10:55 am at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Center. We express our sincere gratitude to the chaplaincy, nursing & caretaking staff at QPRC for the attentive care they provided to our mother.
Sally was born on March 4, 1929 in Minneapolis, MN to Roy and Alpha (Watne) Young. The family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota for a few years and then onto San Francisco, California where in high school Sally met her future husband, Gene Fackler, on a cable car. The two quickly became high school sweethearts with memories of Gene tossing licorice candy up to Sally's bedroom window, carrying her books as they walked to school together, and attending school dances. Rev. Gene Leroy Fackler and Sally Lou Young were married on June 16, 1951 and were blessed to be married for 64 years. Gene passed to glory on January 22, 2016.
Sally (and Gene) received their Bachelors of Arts in Education in 1951 and 1952 respectively, from San Francisco State University. Sally and Gene then left all of their family in California to follow God's calling on Gene's life for the ministry. They moved to the Philadelphia, PA area for Gene to attend Faith Theological Seminary and where Sally taught elementary school for 2 yrs before beginning their family. Together they had a very successful church ministry for over 30 years. First, at The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Eighty-Four, PA, then at Faith Church in
Quarryville, PA and then onto Third Reformed Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA for the remaining 19 years. Many summer vacations were spent traveling across the country with all the children either by car, train or airplane, back to California to spend cherished time with all of the relatives!
God gifted Gene & Sally with five children and Sally embraced the homemaker role faithfully. She enjoyed cooking and would often state that she never made the same recipe twice, which was quite possibly true. Her grandchildren often commented that grandma had a flair for adding ingredients to dishes that most people would never think of! They were humored upon finding raisins, marshmallows, nuts or carrots in her jello dishes!
Gene and Sally lived lives modeled after a genuine Christian walk, leaving a legacy of faith that continues through their family and all those who knew them. Their greatest joy was seeing all five of their children come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior and, in turn, raise their own families very intentionally with Christian values. As the fifth commandment instructs, their children honored them in life and will continue to honor their memory to their children and their children's children. And just as Proverbs 31 promises to a godly woman, Sally's children do indeed rise up and call her blessed.
Sally was well known by all as a "prayer warrior"! She considered it her greatest mission in life. Sally would spend time every morning praying for her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, the orphans and widows, the President and our government as well as for various others who were placed on her heart. Sally also enjoyed counseling people and had a real heart for those in distress. Many parishioners, friends and family benefited from her words of wisdom always based on scriptural principles. Sally lived by the verse Proverbs 3:5&6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path."
Sally was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the piano, was a dedicated puzzler, and a true lover of people. She also had a lifelong passion for politics. For many years Sally enjoyed her service as a Republican committee woman for Eden Township. Choosing a gift for her was always simple: any book detailing a president's personal life, policies, family, or their wives, was sure to bring her joy. Due to this, her family finds it fitting-and a bit bemusing-that she passed away on President's Day weekend.
Sally is survived by her five children, 17 grandchildren, and 19 (soon to be 20) great-grand-children. Left to cherish and honor her memory are her three daughters and two sons and their families.
Deborah Jean Muller, (Peter, M.D.) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and their four children, Maria Elizabeth Muller, Hannah Jean Sims, Mark Phillip Muller, Lt. Col. USAF, (Blair) with son Graham and daughters Perry, Sutton & Wells and Seth Daniel Fuller (Callie).
