Leominster- Sam Lazarus, 88, of Leominster, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 in the Lifecare Center of Leominster.
Sam was born on April 25, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Julian and Adele (Nadler) Lazarus.
In the early 1960's he became a regional chairman for the NAACP where he supported the civil rights movement and specifically the right to vote.
It was around this time that he earned his PhD in Chemistry and obtained many patents while working as a Research Chemist. Following that he and his wife owned and operated a printing company, in Leominster, until his retirement.
Sam enjoyed playing tennis and traveling. His hobbies included photography and painting. He won many awards for his artwork. He and his wife would spend winters in AZ where he was active volunteering his
time to help Senior citizens with technology lessons as well as meals on wheels. Sam also volunteered for many local charities.
He leaves his wife of 64+ years, Rosalie (Menkes) Lazarus of Leominster, two daughters, Robin Corbett, and her husband, Larry of Lunenburg and Cherie L. Wagner of Lawrenceville, GA, a brother Richard Lazarus of Palm Desert, CA; three grandchildren, Max Corbett, Addie Phillips and her husband Logan and Benjamin Wagner, nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his sister Hazel Silverberg.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 2 at 2PM in the Agudas Achim Cemetery in Fitchburg. The Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Rd. Ayer is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
