Sam was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 9, 1947, to Elmer Woodrow and Jean Hayden (Ward) Adams. He married his college sweetheart, Peggy Bell, on August 8, 1970, in Dallas, Texas. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2014.

He was a deacon at McKinney Memorial Bible Church in Fort Worth, Texas, and a member of the Grace Fellowship Church where he served as an Elder, and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Sam loved hunting, fishing, spending time on the ranch on his gator, and spending time with his family. His passion was studying the Bible and sharing his faith. Sam never met a stranger.
Survivors include his children, Allison Ballinger and husband, Tony, of Morgan Mill, Texas, Hayden Tucker and husband, Mike, of Stephenville, Texas, and Lauren Adams of Stephenville, Texas; and grandchildren, Lane Ballinger, Carson Ballinger, Henley Ballinger, London Kimberlin, and Gabriel Reese. Sam was always held in high esteem by our class since he was a football star, but he was much more than that. He was a good guy, wonderful friend and a great veterinarian. Judy and I stayed with Sam and Peg while in Fort Worth area in 1976 and it was good to see him a few years ago at our Class Reunion. God Bless his Family, Keet and Judy Messick

Sam always made me smile or laugh. Some of his fraternity brother friends may remember the episode of the Black Snake. He was such a good guy, full of fun and he would do anything to help a person.
