Samuel Hill Obituary

Sam (Wayne) was born in Dallas, Texas to Gertie Mae and Samuel Eldred Hill. He was a 25-year resident of Holly Lake Ranch serving the community with Kiwanis. He also was an avid player in the Pickle Ball club, Dart Club, HLR Fire Department Bingo, and a member of Liberty Methodist Church.

Sam (Wayne) married the love of his life, Clarece Hill, on July 3rd, 1962. From 1962-1964 he worked for Braniff Airlines, before beginning his career in Law Enforcement with the Dallas Police Department. Sam was with the DPD for 35 years, retiring as a Detective in 1998. After a short retirement and until March 2014, he returned to law enforcement serving as a Bailiff for the Dallas Sheriff’s Department, Crowley Courthouse.

Before moving to Holly Lake Ranch, Sam (Wayne) lived in Duncanville Texas, graduating in 1960. During High School Wayne was on the DHS Panthers Basketball and Baseball team. In his adult years he was actively involved in the community, from bowling at Red Bird Lanes, to coaching baseball with Duncanville Boys Baseball, as well as coaching boys and women’s soccer. He also enjoyed refereeing High School Basketball and youth soccer.

Both (Sam) Wayne and his wife Clarece loved to travel and went all over the world. Their biggest joy came from traveling to see their children and grandsons playing the ball games they loved. You could find them sitting right behind Homeplate, or on the 50-yard line with a hot dog in hand.

Sam (Wayne) leaves behind his loving caring wife of 62 years, Wilma Clarece Myers Hill, daughter, Tracy Hill Sanchez, husband Ray (Dale); son, Samuel Christopher Hill, wife Joni; grandsons, Robert Wayne Anders, wife Kelcy, Chad Holman Anders, wife Shelby, Caleb Samuel Hill, fiancé’ Alyssa, and Johnathan Christopher Hill; great grandchildren, Riley Rose and William Harrison Anders, Lyla and Dean Potts, brothers; Randy Hill and Jeff Goldsmith; sister, Gina Goldsmith; sister-In-Law, Carolyn Myers Shaw; aunt, Bonnie Hill Woolever. Along with, too numerous to list, dear friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Sam (Wayne) did not know a stranger and could have a conversation with everyone about almost anything, especially baseball. He was a great provider, a loving husband, understanding Dad, proud Pepaw, loved the Lord, and our country. It goes without saying that his presence will impact many people, and he will be greatly missed.

Until we meet again in the stands behind Homeplate…. “Throw a Strike down the middle” and “Hit ‘em where they Ain’t!”

A memorial service will take place at Liberty Methodist Church in Quitman, Texas on Saturday, February 1st starting at 1:00 PM.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation, INC or make a love offering to the Liberty Methodist Church, Quitman Texas
