Carl Leslie Boren, 77, of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, passed away at his home on June 18, 2025. He was born in Lubbock, Texas, on November 15, 1947, to Eugene Verl Boren and Evelyn Geraldine (Withers) Boren.
Carl served as a submariner in the United States Navy from 1970 to 1973 aboard the USS Fulton, where he held the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and served as a Nuclear Weapons and Ship Officer.
Carl earned his bachelor’s degrees from The University of Texas at Austin in journalism and accounting, which he practiced for many years. He earned a master’s degree from Baylor University, and later a doctorate from Texas A&M University in English literature. His expertise ranged from Charles Dickens to Beowulf, which he translated from the Old English. His greatest love was studying the Bible, teaching peers during Sunday school for many years.
Carl married his soulmate, Evelyn Kidd, on June 25, 1988, at Munger Place Methodist Church in Dallas. They made their home in Sachse before moving to Holly Lake Ranch in 2017. He was a devoted member of Holly Tree Bible Church.
Music was a lifelong passion. A gifted operatic tenor, Carl sang in choirs throughout his life, including with the Dallas Symphony Choir, and often lent his voice for solos and special events.
To his grandson, he was affectionately known as “Pampaw,” a title he wore with great pride.
Carl will be remembered for his deep faith, love for his family, his brilliant mind, and the music and wisdom he shared so freely with others.
He greets in Heaven his parents, Eugene and Evelyn Boren.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 37 years, Evelyn “Emmy” Boren of Holly Lake Ranch; three children, Katherine Boren of Dallas, David Boren and wife Robyn of Richardson, and Matthew Boren of Holly Lake Ranch; three sisters, Theresa Radford and husband Jim of Ft. Worth, Patricia Boren of Dallas, and Angela Boren of Hutto; his grandson, Daniel Boren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A funeral service for Carl will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Holly Tree Bible Church in Holly Lake Ranch, TX with Pastor Tim Mink officiating. A graveside service will follow at Holly Tree Cemetery.
