It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Samuel (Sam) on July 24th 2025 at the age of 19 years.

Sam will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents Douglas and Elizabeth, his sister Kathryn, his brother Joseph (Charlotte Youmans), his grandparents Thomas and Marilyn Fitzpatrick, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends, dog Ginny and cat Charlie.

Sam was born in Norfolk, VA on November 15th 2005, the same birthday as his paternal grandmother. He spent most of his life in Norfolk except for a Navy move to Honolulu, HI. Sam attended Larchmont Elementary, Blair Middle School, Norfolk Academy, Maury High School, and Eagle Ranch Academy. He also attended Colorado Mesa University.

Sam was talented in so many ways. He was an artist, athlete, and musician, and he was known for going all in on anything that interested him. He grew up on the Lafayette River, learning how to fish and eat crabs. He loved to skateboard and try new tricks, earning himself a Nike swoosh scar on his leg after 19 stitches. He played baseball and lacrosse, including goalie on his middle school and high school teams. Sam taught himself how to play the Ukulele and also spent time learning languages like Swahili. He loved the beach in the summer and skiing in the winter, splitting time between Virginia Beach, Rehoboth Beach, and Vermont ski areas. He also loved weightlifting and cars and spent countless hours in the gym and working on his Challenger.

Sam was curious and liked to stay up to speed on politics and world affairs, voting in the presidential election as soon as he was eligible. Sam very much valued loyalty; he was loyal to family and friends and expected the same in return. He was empathetic, friendly and could light up a room when he walked in. He was a good soul with a pure heart and gave the best hugs.

We are devastated by the loss of our son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend. We love and miss you Sam more than words can describe. You will live in our hearts forever.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, July 29th at Larchmont United Methodist Church in Norfolk VA.

Memorial Donations may be made in Sam's name to the National Alliance on Mental Illness Coastal Virginia Chapter, www.namicoastalvirginia.org.
