Sandra Gallegos, born on July 13, 1947, in Piedras Negras, Mexico, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, surrounded by her children. A vibrant spirit, she filled every room with joy and laughter, and her legacy of love will continue to shine through her family and friends.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fidel Gallegos; her mother, Donaciana Negrete; her father, Manuel Escobedo; and her brother, Jesús Negrete.
Sandra is survived by her three cherished children, Mark (Letty) Gallegos, Michelle (Adrian) Isquierdo, and Melissa (Benito) Castillo. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Mark Gallegos II, Christopher Gallegos, Jayden Gallegos, Kobe Gallegos, Donaciana Isquierdo, Adrian Isquierdo II, Annalesse Rodriguez, Miguel Gonzalez Jr., and Benito Castillo Jr. Additionally, she delighted in the company of four great-grandchildren: Emory Gallegos, Loki Wright-Isquierdo, Greyson Gonzalez, and Ezra Gallegos. She is also survived by her sister, Maria (Juan) Guajardo, sister-in-law Alicia Negrete-Cedillo, along with numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sandra and Fidel spent 53 wonderful years together. Opposites in many ways, they were united by the most important trait of all: the size of their massive hearts. They met in San Antonio, built their family in Rosharon, and grew old together in Clute. Together, they were quick to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors alike. An inseparable team, they inspired love and celebration wherever they went.
Throughout her early years, Sandra was known as the life of the party, always the first to hit the dance floor. Her passion for life continued as she devoted herself to caring for children, embracing them as her own family. She could always remember your exact favorite meal, and without having to ask she would be quick to greet you with a whole feast. In her later years, she found joy in creating handmade jewelry and sharing her stories and wisdom with all who crossed her path-whether they asked for it or not.
Sandra had a unique ability to laugh easily and embrace her emotions fully. Above all, she loved fiercely and deeply, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
Grandma, there was never anything we could ask you that was too much. You were a guiding light in our darkest days, and the first to celebrate our wins and accomplishments. You shared chismes over pan dulce, and knew exactly when we needed a shoulder to cry on. You spoke
your mind and held your ground. You taught us that it's important to be strong, but more importantly to be true to our hearts. You always packed a to-go plate (or two) and never missed an opportunity to tell us how much we meant to you. You lived for us, to love us and cherish us and protect us, and now we live for you. Our days will be in honor of you, and it will be an honor to carry your memory on.
The family extends special thanks to Uvalde Memorial Hospital and Hospice, her beloved nurses Melly, Olivia, Martina, Shelly, and Rebecca, who cared for her in her final days, along with her sidekicks, Dominic, Kaleb, and Addison.
She will be missed dearly but remembered with love and fondness by all whose lives she touched.
