Sandra Lynn Gassaway, 84, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Sandra was born on November 23, 1940, in Hobbs, New Mexico to Dr. and Mrs. Coy S Stone. She grew up in Hobbs alongside her brother, Dr. Bill Stone, and developed a love for dance early in life. After graduating from Hobbs High School, she attended Texas Christian University, where she studied Spanish.
On November 5, 1960, Sandra married the love of her life, Tony Leon Gassaway. Together, they built a full and joyful life centered around faith, family, and community. They raised five children—Toni Lynn Denzer, Coy Lawrence Gassaway, Carrie Brent Gassaway, Gregory Lance Gassaway, and Mindy Diane Ricketts.
Sandra and Tony were proud business owners throughout their life together, running Tony’s Minit Mart in Hobbs, New Mexico; Fiesta Supermarket in Lubbock, Texas; and later, Western Auto in South Fork, Colorado.
After raising her children, Sandra enjoyed teaching water aerobics to seniors and spending time with her beloved bearded collie, Otter. In 2016, she and Tony moved to Houston, Texas, where he passed away later that year. Following his passing, Sandra poured her heart into volunteering daily at WARM, a church clothing charity, and found friendship and faith through women’s Bible study at Waller Baptist Church. She was also a member of Second Baptist Church.
In her later years, Sandra lived at Carriage Inn Assisted Living in Katy, Texas, where she made many dear friends and loved playing Rummikub. She cherished spending time with her daughter Toni—shopping, getting her nails done, and enjoying good meals together.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tony Gassaway; her son, Coy Gassaway; and her brother, Dr. Bill Stone.
She is survived by her children Toni, Carey, Greg, and Mindy; her grandchildren Keaton Denzer, Avery, Brooke, Chloe, and Dax Ricketts, and Chandler and Braxton Gassaway, Sam Anderson, Riley McCann and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Sandra will be remembered for her joyful spirit, deep faith, and the love of Jesus she shared with everyone around her.
