The gates of Heaven opened and accepted Sandy Pryor on March 7, 2026 at 9:10 a.m.
She was born on February 2, 1947 (Groundhogs Day) in
Springfield, Illinois to Leona Marie (Deckard) Hughes and Kenneth Wayne Hughes of Sweetwater, Illinois. Two years later, Gary Wayne Hughes, her brother, was born. Soon after, the Hughes family moved to a farm in Mason City, Illinois, where she grew up. Her mother and father lived great lives and passed away in 2011 (Leona) and 2018 (Kenny). The entire family were proud members of the Mason City Christian Church.
Sandy attended Mason City High School, "The Huskies", graduating in 1965. After graduation she attended Macon County Nursing School in Decatur, Illinois, graduating with a nursing degree in 1968. Soon after she began her nursing career in the Emergency Department of the Macon County Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.
On June 15, 1968 she married her high school sweetheart, Mike Pryor, in the First Christian Church of Mason City, Illinois. While Sandy was an RN at St. Joseph Hospital, in Bloomington, Illinois and later at Galley Eye Clinic, same city, Mike completed his college degree. They soon moved to Peoria, Illinois, where their son Todd was born in 1972.
Sandy worked as an RN primarily in Peoria, Illinois, retiring from Methodist Unity Point in 2014; 44 years in nursing!!! During her career she was recognized for initiating several programs and also a member of several organizations, benefiting patients and families, often putting in long hours to assure their success. Sandy and Mike lived in
Boerne, Texas at the time of her death, moving from Illinois to be closer to son, Todd and enjoy the beautiful weather of South Texas. They enjoyed traveling to places with beaches; Dauphin Island, Alabama, Englewood, Florida (Boca Grande Beach), Port Aransas, Texas and Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama. Never afraid to move or change, the two of them lived in In the Illinois cities of Bloomington, Peoria, Brimfield, Elmwood, Lake Camelot, Washington and finally settling in
Boerne, Texas; they had a wonderful life together!!!
Surviving is her husband Mike, son Todd and wife Shawna in New Braunfels, Texas. Sandy's B brother Gary Hughes of Mason City, Illinois. Grandson's Bryson Pryor (Annie Cantrell) great granddaughter Minna Jae, Cortland, Illinois, Zachary Holsombach (Samantha) Joplin, Missouri, Granddaughter's Baylee (Hunter) Alford, Great Grandson Beckham, New Braunfels, Texas and Claire Holsombach-Gonzalez (Edward), Austin and Temple, Texas. Nephew Brian Hughes (Natalie) of San Jose, Illinois, niece Jennifer Moritz (Jamie) Kirkwood, Missouri, special aunts Marian Case and Janet O'Brien, and many aunts, cousins, great nephew's and great nieces survive. Very near and dear friends also will miss Sandy, Lynn Adams, Marilyn McKirgan, sisters Sally Morse and Becky White.
Her grandkids and great grandkids were so special to her, she loved them undeniably.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cibolo Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center and Crest Hospice for their kindness and wonderful care during Sandy's stay.

No formal funeral is planned. Cremation is in accord by Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home
Boerne, Texas.
A celebration of life will occur in our home town of Mason City, Illinois in June 2026 and will be announced on social media and in the Mason City Banner Times.
