HUDSON - Sara E. Sterling, 95, passed away March 16, 2024. She was born Sara Eileen Bailey on February 7, 1929, in Springfield, Ohio, to John and Mary Bailey.
Sara graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1946, and later attended the University of Cincinnati. She was employed by the Department of Defense in Washington, DC, then at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, where she met Robert (Bob) A. Sterling. They were married on December 30, 1950, and lived in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Puerto Rico, before returning to Ohio in 1954.
During the 1960s, they spent three years in Singapore, where she was president of the PTA at the American school. They lived in Silver Lake, Ohio, from 1967 to 2021, when Bob passed away.
Sara had a lifelong passion for learning and many interests, including music, history, painting, calligraphy, bridge, and Elderhostel trips with Bob. She had a sharp wit and quick sense of humor and was blessed with many friends and a loving family.
Besides her husband of 70 years, she was preceded in death by her sons, Timothy and Christopher; her brothers, Eugene and John, and her sister, Mary. She is survived by her sons, Andrew and Michael; daughters, Mary and Sara (Scott); granddaughter, Erin, and several nieces and nephews.
Sara will be reunited with Bob at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined.
