Sarah Chappell Futrell

RICH SQUARE, NC – Sarah Chappell Futrell, a beloved member of the community, passed away on March 29, 2024, in Suffolk, Virginia. She was born on April 7, 1922, in Northampton County, NC. Sarah was 101 years old at the time of her passing.
Sarah dedicated much of her life to working as a Seamstress at Jernigan's Cleaners. Her passion for crocheting brought joy to those around her, and she was known for her skillful creations. Sarah was a longtime member of Rich Square Baptist Church, where she found solace and community.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Edgar Chappell; mother, Celia Cash Chappell; husband, Iven Elwood Futrell; son, James Elwood Futrell; daughter, Sandra Maude Futrell; sister, Jessie Chappell Johnson; sister, Peggy Chappell Strickland; brother, James Edgar Chappell, Jr.; and grandson, Shane Nall.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Lillie Futrell (Rick Lee) Riddick of Suffolk, VA; sister, Mary Lou Faircloth of Burgaw, NC; grandson, Jamie (Betsy) Futrell of Leicester, NC; two granddaughters, April (Jerry) Pulliam of Lasker, NC, and Beth Long of Suffolk, VA; three great-granddaughters, Heather (Walter) Whitfield of Leicester, NC, Samantha Pulliam of Wilmington, NC, and Trinity Long of Richmond, VA; three great-grandsons, Zach Pulliam of Wilmington, NC, Blake Long of Suffolk, VA, and Nolan Long of Suffolk, VA; one great-great-grandson, Nathan Whitfield, and two great-great-granddaughters, Aaliyah Whitfield and Arianna Whitfield all of Leicester, NC.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11:00 am at Rich Square Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon at Rich Square Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. John Thompson.
