Sary Saing

Sary Saing, 80, a native of Takeo Province, Cambodia, and long-time resident of Dover, NH passed away on Sunday February 26, 2023.
Sary was born in 1943. He graduated from a French-Cambodian Highschool in 1958, and continued his higher education until 1960. In 1961, he started working for a public works company, and in the same year he married his first wife and started building their family amid the growing political turmoil of the time. In 1970, Sary joined with the Cambodian Army of the Khmer Republic to fight the encroaching forces of the Communist Viet Cong. By 1975, the Communist forces prevailed and the Khmer Rouge took control, forcing Sary and his family to flee into the surrounding forest. Tragically, Sary's first wife and their four children were not able to withstand the terrible conditions and all died from starvation by 1976. Sary somehow survived for several more years, and in 1979, he was able to flee into Thailand. He met Sambol Meach while in a refugee camp in 1980, and the two married that same year. In late 1981 the growing family was able to make it to Indonesia where they stayed for another six months until April 26, 1982 when they arrived in the United States. When they arrived here in Dover, he began work at UNH in housekeeping, and went on to finish his career in manufacturing at Hutchinson, where he retired in 2008.
He was preceded in death by: his wife Samon Saing; and his children – Simone (13), Sambo (12), Chamnan (6), and Chenda (3).
He is survived by: his wife of 43 years, Sambol (Meach) Saing; son Sandap Oumsang and his wife Sothearan, and their children Cassandra and Alicia, of California; daughter Somana Chhoeun and her husband Sothy, and their children Christopher and Nicholas, of Connecticut; and daughter Kolap Peau and her husband Phanith, and their children Kiana and Caiden, of New Hampshire.
The family would like to thank the congregation of First Parish Church of Dover for their assistance in relocating Mr. Saing and his family to Dover, especially the Butler, Krans, Jacobson, and Edmunds families who were instrumental in welcoming the Saing family and helping them become a part of the community.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Avenue in Dover NH on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 10-11 AM. A traditional Cambodian ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Watt Samaki Cambodian Buddhist Temple, 128 Back Nippen Road, Buxton ME 04093.
