Scott Distler Obituary

Scott Allen Distler, a man whose fun-loving personality could light up even the cloudiest Kentucky day, passed away at the age of 70, having just celebrated his milestone birthday on August 11, 2025. Born on August 11, 1955, in Scottsville, Kentucky, to the late Bill and Joetta Distler, Scott carried the spirit of Allen County in his heart wherever he went, staying connected to his roots through cherished family ties, including his beloved Aunt Martha, cousin Dean Allen and many other close family members.
A proud graduate of Atherton High School in Louisville, Scott reveled in his glory days as an All-State football player, helping lead his team to the State Championship in 1973 – if you knew Scott, he told you all about that win! For over 40 years, Scott worked in the mechanical contracting business, starting at Stewart Mechanical & Stewart Services in the late 1970s, where he formed friendships that felt like family. He later joined his close friend John Burke at United Mechanical, taking pride in the company's growth and success since 2018. Scott loved the trade, and it filled him with great purpose.
Scott was a die-hard fan of UofL, attended the University, and his father, Bill, taught business classes at the school for many years. While he loved sports and cheering on the Cards, few things brought him more joy than his family. He loved caring for his mother until her passing in January of this year, and he beamed with pride over his children, daughter Ali Denbow and son Taylor Distler and their journeys through life, often regaling friends with stories of their accomplishments. Seeing his grandchildren grow and play sports, sneaking them mints in the bleachers, and knowing how well they were doing gave him such a pure sense of happiness.
He is survived by his son Taylor Distler; his daughter Ali and her husband Michael Denbow and their children Gracie, Henry, Jack, and George; sister Jill Collins and her husband Mark and their family; brother Billy Distler and his family; Aunt Martha and her family; and a wide circle of loved ones who will forever cherish his stories.
Scott's greatest gift was his humor, a trait that turned ordinary moments into laughs and "good times." Whether cracking a joke at the perfect time or pranking you when you least expected, he lived by the simple motto that life is meant to be fun. He now joins his Mother, Father, and sister Jan Distler in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A visitation to celebrate Scott's life will be held on Sunday, November 23, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET (Service at 3:00) at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - St. Matthews, 3711 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY 40207.
