Leslie Scott "Scotty" Vanderwork, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on May 23, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born on November 16, 1962, in Mooreland, Oklahoma, to Leslie Marvin Vanderwork and Maudine (Plew) Vanderwork, Scotty spent his entire life in Taloga, Oklahoma, where he made an indelible mark on his community and loved ones.
Scotty's early years were spent in Taloga, where he attended and graduated from Taloga Public Schools with the class of 1981. His academic journey led him to Oklahoma State University until 1984, after which he transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor of Mechanical Drafting Degree in 1987.
On June 3, 1984, Scotty married his soulmate, Cindy Gay Squires, at the Taloga Christian Church. Their union was blessed with two children, Austin Scott and Jordan Taylor, who were the pride and joy of Scotty's life.
Professionally, Scotty dedicated ten years to the NRCS. He also worked closely with his father-in-law and brothers-in-law in drilling water wells and cultivating crops, including alfalfa, peanuts, and cotton. Alongside Cindy, Marylu, and Richie, Scotty ventured into ranching registered Herefords, continuing a family tradition that brought him immense pride and joy.
Scotty was a man of many talents and passions. He loved fishing, music, quilting, hunting, and making salsa and jelly. His commitment to community service was evident in his roles on the Dewey County Fair Board, Taloga Christian Church Board, Oklahoma Hereford Association, and as a member of the Taloga Volunteer Fire Department and EMT. His dedication to 4H and FFA from his youth persisted throughout his life, earning him an Honorary FFA Member Award.
A lifelong member of the Taloga Christian Church, Scotty was baptized in September 1973. His faith journey saw him ordained as an Elder in 2005. He was an active board member, Sunday School Teacher, and Music Leader, roles he embraced with unwavering devotion.
Scotty's love for family and friends was boundless. He relished watching sports, particularly his beloved OSU Cowboys, and celebrated Christmas with fervent joy. His Herefords were a source of pride, and he found great delight in teaching his grandsons to fish and shoot. From card games to water balloon fights, Scotty's heart was always with his family. Known as the "Gadget Man" for his affinity for the latest tools and gadgets, Scotty's favorite color, orange, was a signature part of his vibrant personality.
Scotty is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Maudine Vanderwork. He leaves behind his lovely wife, Cindy Vanderwork of Taloga; his son, Austin Vanderwork and wife Katelyn of Woodward, Oklahoma; his daughter, Jordan Blevins and husband Derek of Hobart, Oklahoma; his brother, Mickey Vanderwork and wife Bonnie of Weatherford, Oklahoma; his sister, Lynn Vanderwork of Weatherford, Oklahoma; his sister, Marylu Oakes and husband Richie of Taloga; his cherished grandchildren, Everett Scott "Rett" Vanderwork, Samuel David Vanderwork, and Drew Taylor Blevins; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, extended family, and loved ones.
Scotty's life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
