1SG (Retired) Donald Lamar Long, 74, passed away at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on Sunday, September 21, 2025. 1SG Long was born in Macon on June 25, 1951 to the late Joseph T. Long, Sr. and Dorothy Susan Summers Long. He served in the U.S. Army for 25 years during the Gulf War and later worked for 10 years with Battelle as a Quality Assurance Director. 1SG Long was a member of the First Baptist Church in Venice, FL and a member of the Florida Disaster Recovery Team and enjoyed playing golf and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph T. Long, Sr. and Dorothy Susan Summers Long.

Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Long of Fayetteville, NC; brother, Joseph T. Long, Jr. of Pembroke; sister, Deborah Hicks (Gary) of Douglasville, GA; granddaughter, Ariannah Lanier; two special family members, Danny Glen Lanier, Jr. (Sheila), Maleah Brooke Orton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Glennville.
