Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center on Apr. 4, 2024.
Shad Anthony Galyan, an extraordinary family man and diehard Artesian, died unexpectedly at the age of 52 on Monday, April 1st, 2024, at his residence while holding his wife's hand. Shad was born in
Martinsville, Indiana, on July 12th, 1971. He was the middle child and only son born to the late James Kent and Paticia Eileen (Dillender) Galyan.
The Martinsville native graduated from MHS with the class of 1990, where he met his soulmate, Toni Jo (Guy) Galyan. The high school sweethearts dated for six years before they were united in marriage on October 19th, 1996. After high school, Shad began working as a commercial painter for Mike Hickey before gaining employment with Navistar International in Indianapolis in 1997. In 2009, Navistar ceased operations and Shad assumed the role of 'stay-at-home-dad' for the following six years; a title he proudly accepted and mastered. To say that he was a devoted husband and father was an understatement! Not only did he take on the daily parenting and household chores, but he also coached his three children's baseball, basketball, softball and football teams, was an amazing cook, and a meticulous lawn and gardening guru. He and Toni were partners to the end raising their family, "The Fab Five". They delighted in worshiping Jesus together as a family, taking family vacations, boating, camping, fishing, and playing board games. Sports were a huge part of their family's daily life whether it was playing, coaching, attending one another's games or simply cheering on the Artesians, the Indianapolis Colts or the IU Hoosiers together. Shad also enjoyed playing golf and being somewhat of a prankster.
In 2015, Shad accepted a job opportunity with the MSD of Martinsville as the athletic maintenance director at the high school. To no surprise, he thoroughly enjoyed his current job which allowed him to once again be around kids and athletics daily, not to mention, mow and manicure the athletic complex.
His untimely death has left his family and friends heartbroken and holding tight to their cherished memories. He will be lovingly remembered by many including his wife and best friend, Toni Galyan of Martinsville; two daughters, Sydney Galyan and Holly Grace Galyan both of Martinsville; son, Seth Galyan of Martinsville; two sisters, Marilee (husband, Eddie) Hamilton of Clayton, IN, and their son, Riley, and Heather Galyan of Brooklyn, IN, and her children, Skylar, Zach, Cody, Patience and Kaylee.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering on Friday, April 5th, 2024, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday, April 6th, beginning at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to his family to assist with final expenses, c/o of Neal & Summers, 110 E. Poston Road,
