Almost 18 years later and I still hear the boom then gun shots. It was a relatively quiet day that day. I was on fob falcon and halls convoy was about a mile or two down the road for there. I was out working loading t walls for my units mission that night. When I heard the small arms fire break out I got the chills. I knew something bad happened but didn´t know what. It wasn´t until a few days after the attack that I got word from Sarah that you passed. When given the dates I put two and two together. You always telling me where y´all patrolled. Only once have I been able to muster up the emotions to visit your internal resting place. Too many whys to be asked. Too many emotional wounds have been left. I still think about you regularly and what it would have been like to have gone through with our plans to meet up and have a victory party. Peace brother. Till Valhalla!!

So this was very strange to see for my name is also Shane m stinson. Though I did not know him and now wont have a chance. I'm a southern Oregonian and I'm also an army pv2. And a combat veteran. Every fallen man strikes the American heart in its own way. No matter how big or small the difference you make. My condolences to the family. May God bless you. And all who have wept. Hooah....

Shane, you were a very loving person and good kid. I remember that you were very shy. Though I did not have contact with you for many years, you were always in my thoughts. I am proud of the man you became. You were a wonderful person, taken to soon. I know that you are in heaven with my daughter Emily.
You will never be forgotten. Love you!

we just wanted his friends and family to know... that the bomber girls will take care of him here in savannah..... he is now, and forever will be one of our heroes.

Shane,
It's been over a year and a half and the sadness never goes away. I can still visualize you coming through our front door with that shy smile of yours, the many nights you and Justin spent hour’s playing cards, laughing together and of course the “mom” jokes. Every day I see the sadness on his face. He misses you so much and on the night his son, Mason, was born his one wish was that "Uncle Shane" could have been there. You are an amazing person who gave your life so we could all live ours as we choose. Thank you so much for being such a big part of Justin, Kody, and my life. We will never forget your sacrifice; you will be in our hearts forever. Mason will grow up knowing what an incredibly brave, loving, wonderful, thoughtful and caring person his Uncle Shane forever will be.
We love and miss you every day,

I never known Stinson Mikel but on June 21st, I partook in a annual motorcycle ride near Chicago honoring soldiers killed in the middle east conflict. Upon paying $10.00 (which goes towards maintaining a memorial wall ) I was given a fallen soldiers replica dog tag. The name on the tag was Stinson's. I just wanted to let his family know that as far away as I'am from his hometown people like me still remember our soliders. He will not be forgotten. God bless Stinton Shane Mikel

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Shane, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Memorial Day is this Monday and I just wanted to say that you are a big part of that day. You died to give us freedom and there isn't any words to express how much that means to me. I was emailing your mom today, and she sounded like it had been a rough day on your birthday. I told her to keep her head up...you are with her in her heart and in spirit. Watch over your family...I know they miss you terribly Shane. Thank you for what you done over there. Today is the 5 year mark of the war, and i just cant stop think about you. i remember when the war started fighting with you about it, and about your opinion on Bush. now 5 years later, i still have the same opinions but no one to debate with. you are forever in my thoughts and prayers. its funny how you miss the random things. i miss you fake falling over chairs or curbs. i miss your giggle that would make the most angry person laugh. most of all i miss you being in our lives. its wierd being back in OC, and not having you at BBQ. We miss you Shane. RIP and i wish for nothing more than your mother and brothers happiness in the future.

Dear Stinson Family,
I had the great pleasure of knowing your son during his time at basic training. He was a very kind man and very brave. I will miss him very much. I am stationed at Fort Stewart GA. and visited his tree on the Warrior's Walk. I will make it my duty to visit it as often as I can. Shane was a great man and will be missed by many. My heart felt thanks gos out to to him and his family for his sacrifice. God Bless

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Dear grieving friends and family,
Thank you so much for your sacrifice and for sharing such a selfless young man with all of us. Thank you from my young children and husband for allowing Shane to go and protect all of us and this country he loved. What a terrible loss for you but how incredably proud you must be! I have to admit to you about something my son said the other day, he is 8 yrs old. And he came to me one day and told me that he wanted to be an army guy when he grew up and I just told him no I don't want you to do that please do something else.(Thinking of all the long months that my neice and her children waited for her husband and there daddy to come home from Iraq. And the relief to us all when he did.) Then the next day I was reading an email from a friend and it was a beautiful heart felt video that this 14 yr old girl had put together about the war and it showed several funerals of some service men and women and it had me just sobbing. And my son came in and asked me why I was crying. And I showed him part of the video and admitted to him that this was the reason I didnt want him to be in the army because I was afraid for him. He looked at me with the wisdom of one that is pure in heart and said to me "but mommy they where brave enough to die for their country". I looked at him and told him he was right and that if he wanted to be an army man then that is what he should do and I would always be proud of him.
Thank you so much for being brave enough to let this precious young man be who he was and do what he wanted. And know that there are ALOT of us that count our blessing's every night that there are such brave young men and women as your Shane in this world to protect us all.

Shane gave the ultimate sacrifice. We should all be so brave to stand up and fight for what we believe in. I am forever grateful for those who serve our country and fight so that we can continue to live this peaceful and free lifestyle that so many take for granted. Family and friends of Shane Stinson
I am one of the thousands of soldiers who have served in combat with the Third Infantry Division and am a member of the Society of the Third Infantry Division. It is a deep sadness when we learn of the death of a comrade in arms. This Saturday our Southern California outpost holds its annual picnic and meeting. During the meeting Shane will be remembered in our prayers. He will also be remember in our next society newsletter and during the Society Memorial service which will be held during the annual national reunion this September.
Bless you all.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Though this soldier is not yet known except for their unit or families, my grief for the loss of you son/daughter is felt. I know what it's like to loose your child in war as my son was KIA 11/12/06 in Samarra, Iraq SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III. It feels that your heart has been ripped from you and you don't understand why this happened to your child. I've felt all you will feel in the coming days and weeks and though I"m not close I am very close by email. I offer any support to you and your family that I can. It's with the Grace of God that I've gotten through each day and with His healing love and comfort that I've been able to once again sleep at night and not cry each day. Believe me I do know how hard it is. May God continue to heal you and your family and contact me when and if you are ever ready, even if it's to vent or cry. Mother of another fallen soldier

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.
To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.
