Sharen Anne Kizer

Sharen Anne Skusa Kizer August 20, 1947-November 9, 2025
Sharen was born, raised, and lived her life in Howell, MI. A graduate of Howell High School. She was a graceful skier, winning gold medals in college, then after obtaining her nursing degree volunteered for years on the ski patrol. She went back to school after marriage and kids to proudly achieve her bachelor's degree only months before her daughter. She worked as a nurse for many years preferring the busyness of the Emergency Department. A life-long night owl, she worked the midnight shift at University of Michigan and McPherson hospitals. Sharen loved movies. As a kid she would excitedly exclaim "that was the best movie I have ever seen!" After each show. She was always a favorite teammate during games of Trivial Pursuit as she knew all the entertainment answers. She enjoyed playing bridge, euchre and cribbage with her friends and family. Sharen was a diehard fan of the Red Wings, Lions and Tigers. She and her mother, Phyllis, watched sports nearly every night up until her death. Her greatest passion was animals. She ensured that her family included several spoiled animals- cats, rabbits, ducks, guinea pigs, horses, over the years, but her great love was for dogs. In fact, she founded a large dog rescue organization which grew to many volunteers and found forever homes for thousands of dogs.
Sharen is survived by her children, Danielle Kizer and Tom Kizer III, her granddaughter Marissa Kizer Schneider, her brothers Rick Skusa and Jim Skusa and her mother Phyllis Main.
Memorial reception to be held at Chemung Hills Golf and Banquet Center, 3125 Golf Club Rd, Howell MI on December 4th, 2025 from 3-5:30 pm.
