MOUNT WOLF – Sharon (Mowry) Altland, 71, of Mount Wolf, passed away, Friday, June 20, 2025, at her home in Mount Wolf. She was the wife of Joel Ray Altland whom she married 47 years ago on September 17, 1977.
Sharon was born December 3, 1953, in Altoona, PA and was the daughter of the late Paul and Ernestine (Pinnock) Mowry.
She graduated in 1971 from Bloomsburg Senior High School in Bloomsburg, PA. Sharon was a Rotary Foreign Exchange student to Argentina from 1971 to 1972. She graduated in 1976 from Penn State University with bachelor's degrees in Spanish and Social Welfare. Later she attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and received a master's in social work (MSW) in 1994. Her entire professional career was spent in the social work field. She was employed by hospitals and by various agencies working with families and young children. The final part of her working career was with Pennsylvania Counseling Services. She retired from there in 2019. She was a member of Living Word Community Church in Red Lion, PA. She enjoyed reading and listening to music.
In addition to her husband, Sharon is survived by her daughter, Meredith M. Altland of Whitefield, NH; her son, Andrew J. Altland of Wernersville, PA; her grandson, Oliver A. Altland; her sisters, Paula Mowry Cragg, Rochester, NY, and Vicki Mowry Vottero of Sinking Spring, PA, and her brother, Gerald Mowry of Williamsville, NY.
Her funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM, Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf, PA. Her visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Her burial will be private. Officiating at her service will be Pastor Aaron Kuntz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sharon's memory to either Living Word Community Church or the Northern Central Railway of York.
