Sharon Linnette Damon
1947-2025
Sharon Linnette Damon, née Holmes, 78, of Waynesville passed away Friday, August 8th, 2025, after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Born April 4th, 1947 in Arlington VA, Sharon was the daughter of the late George and Evelyn Holmes. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard Damon.
Linn, as she preferred to be known, grew up an only child in Falls Church VA. She attended Trevecca Nazarene University and was a graduate of George Mason University. She was retired from the U.S. Government Accountability Office in Washington DC where she worked as a senior IT security analyst.
A world traveler, she was a veteran of a number of South and Central American mission trips, and traveled for personal research projects to the United Kingdom and also Iceland. Upon retiring, she and Richard relocated to the Waynesville area, having fallen in love with the mountains of western North Carolina while vacationing there. She was active in a number of local book clubs and community organizations, including volunteering at the Haywood County Animal Services shelter in Clyde and Sarge's Animal Rescue in Waynesville. She continued to enjoy traveling, including trips to western Canada and Alaska.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, she would have asked that you consider a donation to Precision Grading and Disaster Relief of Saluda NC. They continue to be heavily engaged in the region's long, agonizing recovery from Hurricane Helene.
