Sharon L. Gourley, 89, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025 in Vernon Hills, IL. She was born on August 25, 1936 in Atlantic, Iowa and lived in Des Moines for many years. Sharon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Drake University where she met her husband, Richard Gourley. They lived in many places including San Francisco, CA and Buffalo Grove, IL but spent most of their married life in Winnetka, IL where they raised their children. She has spent 22 of the last 24 years living in Angel Fire, NM and Scottsdale, AZ before returning to Illinois. She was a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and remained active for 70 years, both enjoying the company of her original sorority sisters and welcoming the new. Sharon worked in a variety of fields including closet and kitchen design and also served as an office manager. She enjoyed traveling, hiking, skiing, and was an avid reader.
Sharon is survived by 2 sons, Brett (Michelle) & Sean (Sara) Gourley; 11 grandchildren, Colin (Brooke), Kara (fiance Rafael Jimenez), Kyle (Emily), Jillian, Samantha (Lonnie Schutte), Danielle, Amanda, Abigail, Alexander, Veronica, & Jason and by 4 great grandchildren, Jax, Ava, Grey & Ella.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gourley, in 2002, and by her son, Erik, in 2023.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, November 8 from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, IL. Arrangements by Burnett-Dane Funeral Home in Libertyville. For info: please call 847-362-3009 or share a memory at www.burnettdane.com.
